What is khas land:
If any land is vested in the hands of the government and if those lands are under the complete control of the government and the government can settle these lands according to the procedure framed by the government or use them in any other way, then those lands are called khas lands.
Sub-section 1 of section 6 of the State Acquisition and Tenancy Act of 1950 deals with khas land. The section states that if any land is vested in the hands of the Government and the lands are under the complete control of the Government, the Government may settle these lands in accordance with the procedure laid down by the Government, or use them in any other way. Will explain.
However, land owned or controlled by other ministries such as forest or public works or roads and highways cannot be considered as khas land of the government.
